Does anyone know of a freeware (or shareware) program similar to Lotus'
ScreenCam -- that will allow one to create a demo, capturing screens and
creating a movie?

Lotus does not apparently plan further versions of Screencam.

That's a shame. ScreenCam was one of the few valid reasons to own Lotus
SmartSuite. IBM has never understood their Lotus acquisition. But then
again, they never understood OS/2 or anything else related to the PC.

The link isnt working right now -- and it seems to be trialware. Any
restrictions? (and an alternative download site?)

Just a warning too, the versions of Smartsuite Millennium Edition that are
on sale for about $10 do NOT have the screencam in them.

Mine did, but It didn't install with the main installer. I had to "Explore"
the CD, find the ScreenCam folder and use the ScreenCam setup.exe that I
found.

Would you happen to remember where you found it? I thought I explored it
thoroughly.

My disk is v9.5 it's in SSUITE_9_5/EXTRA/ScrnCam There are 2 folders 1
named '97' and 1 named 'NT'. I believe I selected the 97 folder as I use
WinME (no comments please!)

Oooooh, winME.... no, I'm not gonna say it....or will I... no...pffff,
just managed to control myself.

Rats!

I have SSUITE_9_5/EXTRA/, but no ScrnCam -- just Flg, Internet, LCon,
Organize, and WordPro.

Jimmy, MS's Windows Media Encoder (free) can do that.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx

You can capture a specific window, a region of the screen or the whole
screen. Output in is in WMV format ( maybe other formats as well, not
sure)
See here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/howto/articles/IntroEncoding.aspx

Unfortunately, crusty, old me is still running Win98SE. But when i do make
the switch (have a pretty shiny WinXPPro in the hutch), I'll take a look at
the encoder. (Perhaps this is why Lotus/IBM isn't upgrading ScreenCam to
run on XP -- though it apparently does.)
