Freeware PIMs?

Unless I am looking in the wrong place, I can't find any reference at all
to any freeware PIM's on the Pricelessware pages. Would have expected to
have found something in the organisers section.

Anyone recommend a decent one? I've tried a few in the past that are OK
but that leave a lot to be desired when it comes to the printing options.

EssentialPIM

http://www.essentialpim.com/

"Automatically import existing data from Outlook, Windows Address Book
and CSV, anytime.

Tasks- good looking scheduler. Versatile and easy to use day, week and
month schedules.
Notes- quick, simple and yet powerful outliner with tree-like
information representation.
Contacts- all one would ever need about contacts management. Search,
sort, add customs fields, print.

Get information wherever you need to. Print out or Save to HTML, RTF,
CSV or TXT. Real information on the Go."

Thanks, but that one doesn't work for me on my Win98 box:

ESSENTIALPIM caused an exception eedfadeH in module <unknown> at
0000:00000000.

And then a 'runtime error 217 at 004728F8'

Tried the download from both locations in case one was corrupt but still
no joy.

Hi Suzan.......i took a quick glance at Esential PIM.........it seems a
bit basic.......i am already setting up Thunderbird calander.....i
assume thunderbird calander is much more advanced???.....

As far as organising data goes i think mind mapping is the way to go
since it suits everones abillity to organise data the way it suits
their imagination.

I previosly posted a question about Mind Map freeware but did not get
any answers that found a definate solution.......I currently use
mindman personal, but am disapointed that i cannot use a paint like
program to include my own freehand scetch pictures next to the text
(which is meant to be the whole concept of associating and remembering
personal stuff).....i have briefly read descriptions of other mind map
progs but they seem to use "imported library pics" instead of creating
your own in a MS paint like App.

Do you know if there is a freeware solution for me (or even a comercial
one)....i was hoping i can use a prog like ragtime solo but am having
trouble installing it....or will this not help either?

If you know of anything in existance which can do what i need....please
let me know.

Many thanks in advance.........A

Did you look at Brainbox? It has been a long time since I last reviewed it,
but it might be what you're after.

None made the cut during the selection/voting process.

No PIMs were nominated for PL2005. The PL is the "best of the best" apps
that are *favored* by newsgroup participants. It's easy to draw
conclusions about apps that are on the list - more difficult to say why
some apps are not. . .

IIRC many of the well liked PIMs are last freeware versions - IOW - not
in active development. That might have something to do with it. . .

Hi alpha,

I haven't used any of the mind mapping programs listed here:

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/P_BUSINESS-HOME.php#1.00Brainstorming

(Brainbox, Correlate, FreeMind, MindMan Personal, Win Squared Problem
Solver)

A Google search of archived ACF posts will give you information that was
posted by people who have tried the programs. IIRC there was a fairly
long discussion about some of these apps within the last year.

From Brainbox's registration section:

"Your mouse-click gives permission for your machine to send us the
serial number of your hard drive, which is unique but has no security
implications for your installation. (NB: Also sent are some details that
will help us customise our work to your needs in the future. To be
specific: the speed of your computer, the amount of RAM, the kind of
printer you use, the resolution of your display, and the kind of XP
theme you use (if any))."

Is the culling of HD id's common for freeware?

One wouldn't think so, but you never know.

What about:

Hmm, that's new since I last used it. Do you have to mouse-click to install
or is it an option?
