Yes, there is BUT I've lost the bloody link. You set up the "before" and
"after" positions, then the program took a series of bitmaps in-between. You
would then have to use one of the many freeware programs out there that can
convert a series of images to video.

The program name started with an R. I found it by Googling on 'Ken Burns
effect freeware','Ken Burns pan zoom freeware' or similar. It was several
pages deep into the search results. Sorry, I can't do better than this.

if your running windows xp then download the moviemaker powertoy from the
microsoft download site,it can do what you desrcibed.

I have NOT tried the following BUT I think at least one might be close
to what you want. I think they are all freeware.

I noticed on a web page someone say ;

"With a little effort, you can do it in Virtualdub, by combining the
Pan and Zoom Filters."

Another page says ;

"dvd-slideshow makes a DVD slideshow video with menus from a batch of
pictures. It consists of a set of scripts: dvd-slideshow reads a text
file list of all the pictures you want in one slideshow and creates a
DVD-compatible MPEG movie with your audio tracks and specified timing.
It supports effects suchas fades, crops, and a Ken Burns effect."

Thanks Michael. That helped. Did you download it ? If you did then
perhaps you could do a file search on your system for files that
contain the word "burns". Then see if any "hits" that start with "R"
trigger your memory.

It would be interesting to compare your program with the ones
above. :-)

Regards, John.

Found it!! Man, the subconscious mind is a mysterious thing. I went shopping
today, was driving home and the name of the program suddenly jumped out at
me. It's called Rostrum Camera at:

http://www.price-media.demon.co.uk/rostrum.html

I dl'd and looked at it briefly before finding a shareware (gasp!) product
more suited for my needs. It will pan OR zoom and even then will only pan
vertically or horizontally but not both as I was looking for.

ProShow Gold. There is another popular one called MemoriesOnTV. Both of
these get lots of "press" in home video-to-DVD discussion groups.

Oh man, you're going to Hell for mentioning shareware in this freeware
group.

Of course, I agree with you. I tried a bunch of freeware slideshow apps
but finally purchased ProShow Gold. The pan and zoom feature is very
easy to use and the quality of the output is outstanding.

Thanks a lot everyone !! I tried the shareware ones but found the Rostrum
Camera better suited to what I want to do since it can save in avi format...
I've got other tools to deal with the resulting avi's...

Normally, I wouldn't except that I was specifically asked in this instance.
However, I expect to find Hell populated with all the more interesting
people anyway. . .
