Freeware Image/Video Player that's COMPLETE

I decided to delete MediaPlayer and Real Player because their so darn
slow in starting up. Real Player is so cute when they make you dialup
to read the help files. :-)

I downloaded IrFanView and all the plugins, but it didn't work with
..mpg files,
then it was off to search for codecs of which their are a plethora of
them.

Is there a standalone program that can play .avi, mpg, mpeg, and .jpg,
..gif and .bmp files.
