Anyone know of a simple freeware program that allows you to scan a form and
then fill it out and print it, without using OCR software.
I have some forms that need to be completed in Black Type and I don't have a
typewriter.
A link would be useful.

FillOutAForm 2.3 enables you to fill out a scanned form on your computer
and print it.

I make a copy of the form in *.gif or *.jpg and import it into
Coreldraw (not free). Then I type in the info as a second layer. Print
it or export it back as a *.gif or *.jpg.

You could just as easily use any of the freeware graphics programs. As
long as it supports layers and typing in the information.

Hope that helps.

A good list of graphics programs can be found at

It's a little tricky to do but irfanview http://www.irfanview.com adds
text to its graphics now. They can't be manipulated too easily though.
A layers capable freeware image package would be best. Gimp springs to
mind.

Good Luck.

I found FillOutAForm very awkwardto use,and was more difficult than
importing the scanned bitmap file into freeware RagtimeSolo and
writing on top of the form, then printing it.

Try the OpenOffice presentation component. I use PowerPoint since I happen
to have it, BUT a free equivalent presentation app should work just as
well. It's pretty convenient to scan the form into it, then use text boxes
to fill blanks. Since text boxes are easily sized and placed by dragging
then using the cursor keys with the "snap to grid" option off, it's easy to
get precise alignment and sizing. Also, by using Ctrl-left mouse button to
drag, you can copy by drag-and-drop, so easy to repeat entries without
having to key in again.
