Freeware for minidisc?

The software supplied with my son's minidisc
is crap, SonicStage and Net MD Simple Burner.
It constantly crashes, and has to be re-installed every
time he wants to transfer music. Pure shite. Is there any
freeware which will do the job?

Your son can use any software that supports recording a cd in the mp3
format. Unfortunately, if he wants to use Sony's proprietary format, then he
is stuck with Sony's software.
