Freespace2 and 9800pro?

The game won't detect that I have a D3D capable card in my PC so can't run
the game. Anyone know a fix? Haven't found anything about it on Google yet
but will keep searching. Today ATI driver (Cat3.7) reputation is starting to
bite me in the ass. Can't run Jane's F15 at all due to a direct draw error
crash. X-Plane 5.66 crashed with direct draw error and made a mess of my
desktop until I was able to get the game to run in the same res and bit
depth as my desktop, but the graphics are a bit messed up still. Looks to me
like X-Plane is choosing to run with FSAA even though I have set it to
apllication preference and friggin' ATI left out the option to force FSAA
off like Nvidia provides. And now Freespace2 is a no go. And I'm no where
near finished testing out my complete game library. Anyone who says ATI
drivers are as rock solid or better than Nvidia's is, well, to put it
bluntly, a liar!

Follow up to my own post:Fixed the Freespace2 issue, it wouldn't
detect a D3D capable card in Win98SE using Cat 3.7 drivers but it did
in XP using latest Omega drivers. Weird.

No they didn't.

Then where is it? I'm looking at the available options right now and there
is
application preference, 2x, 4x, 16x, and inbetween those settings and
anisiotropic filtering is an option for performance or quality. No where
does it say FSAA OFF. Or does the performance setting turn off both FSAA and
anisio?

I just ran into another game last night that won't run correctly on the
9800pro, Fly2. Funny thing is though that the original Fly runs perfectly.

DXDiag OK?

Have you run dxdiag - did it show any probs or not?

No, there are no problems. But I fixed the Freesapce2 problem by
installing to to XP, it was detected there ok. I thought you were
telling me how to force FSAA off in the ATI control panel.

Sorry - I could have been clearer - you mentioned problems with D3D and
direct draw. I wondered whether you had tested direct X which might have
highlighted probs with these. Glad you got it sorted. Shawk.
