Thinking about this Freesat tuner/recorder
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Humax-FOXSA.../B001L5YU36/ref=de_a_smtd/275-1836674-1885025
Can saved videos be easily transferred to PC with maybe a view to making DVD
for stand alone player?
Replies appreciated.

You have to remember, that the purpose of digital technologies,
is to arbitrarily restrict your ability to do anything with the
content. It's "easy distribution for them" and "misery for you".
When I see comments like this -
http://www.eurosatireland.com/product_details.php?item_id=3573
"The included Ethernet port will allow data transfer via FTP client to your
computer, allowing for 100mb/sec transfer speeds; this however is a planned
addition for a future roll out (not available from launch)."
Roughly translated, it means the feature probably did exist (seeing
as the box has very capable programming for a lot of its other
features). It was likely neutered before being shipped to your
particular area. Never rely on "promises" of features, because
there is no reason for them to deliver them later. The box has had
three releases of firmware already, with no indication of any
staff "furiously working" on improving the feature set.
You need to find a hacking site. In this sample page, they take
a disk from one of these PVRs, connect it to a PC internal port,
boot a Linux LiveCD, and mount the partitions.

The thing is, if it was Linux based, it had FTP capability by default.
Which means the Ethernet port was neutered on purpose, to keep you
from getting at the content. It is always possible, that the disk
contents could be encrypted, if they wanted. So just because
a PVR has a hard drive, and you can manage to remove it,
doesn't guarantee that the contents are useful as is. On that hacker
page, there is no mention of them actually playing the content they
located. Just to be sure the hack really works.
Are you sure there isn't a Freesat tuner that plugs into a PC ?
Try searching a site like this, and see what tuners for PCs are
available.
