Every time I try to install the Freelancer trial, it keeps on saying that the
setup resource dll cannot be found (or can't be read.) I tried every possible
solution including making up a new temp folder, installing the trial file
from different websites and trying renaming the resource dll file. Any
answers??

Let's try a couple of things to get that working for you again:

1. Startup your system in SAFE MODE by pressing F8 repeatedly
while your system is booting up after you've shut down your system

2. Log in with an account you've created as a "Computer Administrator"
account that you'll use to play the game, but don't use a Limited account.

I've already tried that. And yes, I am the computer administrator. Hmm, how
do you make the self-extracting program extract the files somewhere else?
Maybe that'll solve the problem...

If you want to switch to another directory for your %temp% files:
Create a folder on your drive: c:\TEMPFILES
Right-Click My Computer
Properties
Advanced Tab
Environment Variables Button
Edit your TEMP values to point to: C:\TEMPFILES
Click OK

Winrar is quite good at extracting self extracting programs. You can
download a trial and use it.

Hmm, I wasn't talking about extracting files using WinZip or WinRAR, I was
trying to get the self-extracting program to extract its files someplace
else... I don't think that's the problem.

The last time it worked is when SP2 wasn't installed, and I don't want to
revert back to SP1. Any hotfixes or updates to the operating system that
might cause the trouble?
