Freelancer is one game that you'll have to play with Keyboard and Mouse.
There's no workaround, the game was designed to be played that way...

No One Realy
It plays realy well with the mouse. Much more control. I was pissed it
did not work with a flightstick but it works even better with a mouse.

However, in aother microsoft newsgroup, there was a mention of a "special"
driver that allowed you to use a joystick as a mouse. This may be a
solution for you???

I tested those back when Freelancer first came out and this was
a hot issue, and none of those drivers/emulators were a solution..
