I am running out of room on my harddrive, XP says my C has 68GB of used
space. When I enter my C drive and add up all the folder's sizes (including
hidden) they add up to less than 30GB. What is going on here? How can I fix
this?

Files stored in Windows are based on clusters. A file that ONE character in
it will still take up one whole cluster. This may be the discrepancy you
see.

Do you have Norton System Works installed on your computer? The
Norton Protected Recycle bin often causes this type of
behavior.

If not, you might find one of these programs helpful in
identifying exactly what is taking up space on your HD.

That is a huge difference.

You need to provide more information for a diagnosis.

Do you have Windows Explorer set to show hidden and system files (and have
'Hide system files' unchecked?

What is the total size of your hard drive?

Is the drive partitioned? If so what are the sizes of the partitions?

What is your file system?

Do you have up-to-date anti-malware programs installed and always running?

Download and install 'Space Monger', a small applet that displays a
graphical representation of how partition space is used, including free
space. The URL is
http://www.werkema.com/software/spacemonger.html .

Please post the additional information.

Compare the disk usage shown with either of those programs to
what you see when you open your C drive. For example, run
JdiskReport and look at the values reported for the top level
folders on your C drive. Now go back to your C drive and right
click the corresponding folder. The size should be the same. If
it differs, find out why.

do you download a lot of music? Do you ever run disk cleanup, defrag/clear
temp files/remove unneeded exe setup files/

JdiskReport is a great tool to help identify hdd usage.

You may also want to check you Recycle Bin AND determine how many System
Restore points you have.
System Restore points take up space as well.
