FreeAgent Drives fitted with Bad Drives

It seems that you just can't update a USB drive I have one that is only 7 days
old, has clicking noises and disappears and is on the list of Bad drives but
not the Serial number, that is a Con as they do not support USB drives..

ST31000340AS SD81 firmware..

That is not the firmware problem. THose drives become completely
passive.
