Important: BitTorrent download only....
regards from

Thanks for the news. I have been thinking of trying this out for the
last couple of weeks. After a unix user said what a great program it
was.

Downloading a "personal edition" is great BUT I will not use
BitTorrent.

I see that it says "The Open Circulation Edition is a limited version
of Xandros Desktop OS that can be download at no charge and freely
distributed to others. It is strictly for non-commercial use, and no
e-mail installation support is included. "

"Freely distributed" ? Does anyone here have the time/inclination to
make this available from a web page please ? Even temporarily ?

Or.....plan B. If anyone has downloaded this and it is less than 1GB
then how about emailing it via http://s11.yousendit.com/ ?

If someone can do either/both method could they post here and/or
email me directly please ? Preferably before doing anything (I don't
need ten copies !)

TIA.

Regards, John.

Thanks for posting this information, it seems to be a good way to
distribute very big files.

I quote from their web site:

"How Does It Work?
New to YouSendIt? Here's what you do.
Choose who you want to send a file to. It can be anyone with an
email address. You can specify multiple email addresses separated by
commas.
Select a file to send. You can send photos, audio, documents or
anything else. Your file will be stored by YouSendIt without ever
filling up your recipient's mailbox.
Click on Send. YouSendIt will automatically email your recipient
a link to your file stored on our server. Your file will be deleted
after seven days."

The only weak point is that you are supposed to give them your friend's
email address, but that can easily be overcome by using a temporary
address like mailinator.com.

If somebody wants to send a file to more than one person it is probably
possible to share the download information.

I installed BitTorrent just to get the iso image of Xandros - it took a
while for the download because it "ramps up" as it goes and I guess I was
uploading parts of it as fast as I was receiving it, but eventually I got it
(a couple of hours). I may or may not come across a need for BitTorrent
again - last time I looked at it I couldn't easily find much "available" to
d/l and I haven't spent much time looking around lately.

I don't like the idea of giving away $10 (as low as that is) when I can grab
it for free. I understand their point, but soon the .iso will be flying
around the Net anyway and people wont be bothering the company's bandwidth
any more...

Best of luck...

PS: I knew about yousendit.com - very useful too.
