Has anyone tried this free web page provider?
Did you find their pages extremely slow to load?
Did you find their interface difficult to navigate?
Were you successful in uploading your files?
Where in the hell do you do the upload - gave up after countless boring
attempts...

I tried it, have successfully set up a trivial Web site
(a couple of pages).

Yes to both questions. I haven't used any other hosting
services so I don't have anything to compare this with.
I am still trying to configure my email accounts, haven't
yet gotten this to work.
Were you successful in uploading your files?

Yes. Uploading and retrieving pages seems to be very quick.

They give you an address of the form: xxxxxxx.onlinehome.us
(or something like that, don't recall exactly). You can use
ftp (assuming you remember your password) to upload.

Hope this helps...

I tried it and it's great. I'm using the Front Page extensions and
everything has gone flawless. Pages load just fine, better than they do
over on geocities' servers.

And 5.99 domain registration is a great deal too.

Also, I should add, once the website is published it's no slower than
any other server. The only thing I find painfully slow is the control
panel, but for free hosting, I can put up with it.

Hi

I found it very good. And not expensive, there are all linux servers....if
you take dsl , you got 100 MB freespace

For some reason, the control panel is only slow when I access in
Internet Explorer, when I use Mozilla 1.5a , it's normal. (I'm on cable)

Fwiw, I've started a yahoo group where we can discuss the pains and
pleasure of 1and1 hosting.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/1and1/

I've kicked it off with some info on how I've installed Xaraya and
movabletype succesfully so far.

1and1 support is pretty swamped, so this may help us help ourselves.

cheers, michael

Michael, could you post some more information on this?
For example, is your site accessible so that we can
see how well it works? Thanks...
