AVG will work on your system OK

That just means that AVG cannot scan a remote (or network) drive

Avast - http://www.awill.com/
Bitdefender - http://www.bitdefender.com/
AntiVir PE - http://www.free-av.com/
F-Prot for DOS - http://www.f-prot.com/
AVG says theirs can't be used on any network.
How about home cable internet with router?

It can be used on your PC and will scan everything you download - it
just cannot scan any things that are not on your PC. (For example, if
you had two computers and connect them over a LAN, you cannot scan your
second computer from your first PC)

You would need to install it on each computer -- I don't beleive that it
will scan across network drives.

It does work on any network computer except the one running internet
sharing. If you are using a router it should work on all.

It will scan network drives if they are mapped or you perform a manual scan.
