I don't know if this really applies here or not, but free copies of
VB.Net are available at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/. You watch
5 brief demo's of the language cpability and then Microsoft sends you
a redemption code for which you can get a free copy of VB.net.

I haven't found the offer yet, but the Pro version is priced at $1079.

They gave this to students, so it looks like it's overpriced and
useless unless enough developers begin coding applications in it to
make getting the framework worth the effort to users.

It's a very good development package to anyone looking for a free copy
of an overpriced product. It beats the heck out of MS Visual Studio
C++.
