Hi,

Many of you will read the subject and think: "Another lame spam attempt".
It isn't. This is the free Usenet service I have been using for years. I
have been moving between ISP's, and even continents, and kept my Usenet
account with these folks. It always works and have all the news groups
available that I need (I'm not into binaries and such).

Strictly spoken this is not "freeware", but closely related, so go to:

I'd second that. Being non-binary there are no morons posting viruses and
they seem to be good at filtering spam posts as well.

Gordon

Answer cubed. Best I have ever found.

Yup, I was driven there by my ISP (btinternet.com) having a newsserver that
would drive you nutty! Even little me!!!

I stood it for a long time because I hate registering, but it's excellent
(so far..)

You BTDT?!

Yep.

I went to BTi when they suddenly became the best unmetered, UK dial-up
deal. The competition then was between Clara, FS and BTi. Lineone had
been good but dumped on us; Redhotant never looked like a goer...I
jumped ship from BTi for A*L when they suddenly transferred me to the
'heavy user' modem banks and defined 'heavy use' as an abusive thing
that included me. A*L remains the best unmetered UK dial-up by far...

Shame about A*L's software; I've just installed it on the new doorstop,
er, laptop, and TotalUninstall fell over on the job :-)

..support was surreal fun :-) happy time when they gave us 24/7 over
Christmas a few years back; all disconnections were down to our
firmware, the newsserver never had a problem, manually needing to add
the 'naughty groups' to our newsreaders, Derek Potter getting booted off
for posting to .announce, Dominic bloody Hyde...
I thought you were American!

Come on now. Do I *look* American?

That's how long messages are retained on the sever. On an alt.* group
(35 days), for example, you won't find a 37 day old message.

Do they spiral up to the dome and explode?

Very interesting but as others will rightly point out this is not
freeware.

They would probably direct you to and ask
you not to post off-topic again in this group.
