Free Space Check on Startup

Lately, when I restart my computer, it goes through a
complete scan disk where it checks the free space on my
drive. This takes hours since I have a 120 gig hard
drive. Somehow or another my settings must be off since
this never happened to me before.

I understand that if the computer is shut down
incorrectly and then is restarted, windows will
automatically go through a scan disk and skip over the
free space check. However, this long scan disk happens
even when the computer is shut down or restarted properly
and I know this shouldn't happen.

Does anyone know how I can stop scan disk from coming up
every time I start my computer and going through a free
space check when it checks my disk every time I reboot?

Help!
