Hello All,
I have disabled Mcafee 'privacy service' and 'spam killer' due to constant problems. I was charged 18GBP on my debit card recently by McAfee and I am not dure what it was for! I get Internet via a router with firewall. Do I need a software firewall as well? If so which is the best free one ?
Thanks in advance.

Did you sign up to an automatic subscription service with them? I'd check with them to see what happened, especially if you don't use it!

A hardware firewall is good, but I use a software firewall as well - Kerio Personal Firewall is my favourite, but ZoneAlarm free is also popular.

I use the standard Windows Firewall along with my NAT router, passes all the various probe tests :thumb:

Thanks for the replies,
I think the charge happened when I installed xp on a second pc (new, legal OEM). I installed the McAfee cd and registered for updates. I will check with them as suggested.
Cheers,

What/Who's Router is it ? ... not all are equal.

.. either or any of the above sugestions for a software FW will be fine. But only one.

I use XPs own FW, but I have a good FWed Router also. ;)

No comment on M'Crapy

Thanks Muckshifter,
It is a Sweex router but no idea how good the firewall isCheers,

Fine, is has a built-in NAT-firewall ... :thumb:

OH, and just to be sure, use a software FW as well. ;)

Hello All,
Have 'Zone Alarm', 'AVG Anti-Virus' and 'Spybot - Search and Destroy' on a magazine free CD. Intend to delete all McAfee and install these. Do I need them all or will there be any conflict?
Thanks in advance,
