Where is a good free place to get my website into search engines on
the web
Thanks in advance

The search engines themselves.
The a registration section at Google.
Also, register the site at the open directory project, www.dmoz.org

If / when dmoz picks it up they all will. Be patient however, it can take a while.

I hope you're kidding. You can get your site into search engines by going to
google and looking for the submit url link - in a few weeks you might appear
on page 23 for your search terms, all for free :-) If you want a search
engine ranking that's actually going to deliver traffic again its free, in
the sense that you don't have to pay anyone, but it's going to take a lot of
hard work. I could tell you how to do it but I'm not going to - you really
need to learn for yourself.

I don't know how and would greatly appreciate if you could atleast guide me
in the right direction. Thanks

Hi,
Sorry if my reply came over as abrupt - my point was that because a good
search engine position can be very lucrative nobody is going to tell you
exactly how to get yourself ranked. As a starting point review the links
Thomas sent - they all have good basic info but do bear in mind this info
isn't enough to get you ranked, everyone can read the same thing. Try
looking at sites that are well ranked for the phrases you want to target and
work out how they've got their rank, to get you started here's a search on
MSN
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=buy+dvds+online&FORM=QBHP

My site is #1 for this phrase "buy dvds online" and #3 for the phrase "buy
dvds" - see if you can see why. Other than that keep experimenting with
different things to find out what works. There isn't a short cut or a magic
word to get a ranking - be prepared for a lot of hard work, it's well worth
the effort though once you get a good ranking you'll make money while you
sleep :-)

Thank you all so much. I will definately do some reading and studying. I
have purchased Submit It thru Microsoft BCentral. It does not work at all
when it comes to getting in the top pages, (my opinion). The only way that
my website appears is if you type in my business name. And that doesn't even
appear as the #1 position. Thank you.
