free pictorial editor?

Hi all
Could someone indicate me a good free pictorial editor? (Something to do
things you do with commercial software as photoshop or photopaint). I have
tried The Gimp for windows and, while it is a very good software, i have
some problems when loading big images (it often locks after having loaded 6%
of the image).

I'm not a graphic expert but I think you could try Pixia 3.0b (new version
dated October 21, 2003), 3.293KB:

Thanks for your answers: i've downloaded and installed Pixia and it seems
pretty good.
