It looks as though this may have been programmed to *only* work with
Photoshop and Elements. On opening the .exe gives a "cannot find Photoshop
or Elements" message and doesn't run...So I downloaded the individual
components, but the plug-in doesn't even show up in the Gimps filter list. A
shame, it's a nice idea for a plug-in....
Same here for PSP 7.0 - no joy

I have Adobe PhotoShop Elements® installed (with W98se) and still get
that "Photoshop was not found blah-de-blah..." message.
Strange ...

Will PhotoShop Elements still open and work correctly? I had version 1,
that came with my scanner and got the same error message, then found
that my install of PhotoShop Elements was toast. I had to
uninstall/re-install to get it working. It may only work with the
newer PhotoShop Elements v2.0.

i run the installer, it found photoshop cs (win2000).
no evidence of any changes in menus, but a slower launch of ps.

found this files
plugins | file formats:
08/07/2004 11.14 1.327.104 FitsFormat.8bi
actions:
07/07/2004 11.11 2.843 Colour_composite.atn

downloaded some .fits from the educational page of spacetelescope.org.
put them in an \img\nasa\ directory.
ps sees and opens them, with kind of a preview form like the one for canon
crw's, and lets you save them as psd, pdf, raw, png, tiff.
out of a 10mb fits i got a 2.4m pdf, a 5m tiff, and a 2.3m png.
just glimpsed the downloaded psd's.

"The ESA/ESO/NASA Photoshop FITS Liberator works on Windows PCs and Macs
(OS X 10.2+) and is optimised for Photoshop CS, but also works in Photoshop
7.0 (only 15 bit support) and Photoshop Elements 2 (only 8 bit support)."

To bad it is Photoshop (CD / 7.0 / elements) only. Bit strange asthese
plug-ins aren't as picky as this one. Most cn be run by the gimp or at least
Paintshop pro. I couldn't get it to work on 4.15 either. (but I thought it
could be the out-of-dat technique of the program).

To bad, i was looking forwards to do some alian hunting with it ;-)

the MK quote was definitely *not* in the post I replied to, or I wouldn't
have bothered...

that wasnt a quote from mk, just from the documentation page mk linked to.
i often download from straight links, but before installing anything i
usually read some docs, if available.

It's v1.0.1 that came with my Epson 2400 scanner - could be it's too
early but I'll uninstall, tidy the Registry and have another go.
