Hi,
I'm looking for some good free page-layout software, i.e. to make
posters with. At home, I have CorelDRAW 9, but at work I don't have
anything, and I'd like to make a poster to put outside my cube. Does
anybody know of some freeware/open source page layout program that
runs on XP? Thanks!

It'll be a bit disappointing after CorelDraw, but it is free.

You could take a look at ZonerDraw 3 (free after registration, no spam
received from them however). http://www.zoner.com/ (in downloads section).

With kind regards,

I hang my head in shame. Of course, the *first* thing any aspiring
freeware webmaster should do is pillage PricelessWare (and Son of Spy, and
Henk's site) and build from there. I've always taken a more random
approach, however, relying on what people need that particular day; stuff I
pick up on my rounds; serendipity; barometric pressure; the alignment of
the stars etc. when looking for things to add to:
<more blatant site pimping>
http://freeware.stalkingsheep.co.uk/
</more blatant site pimping>
If anyone needs me, I'll be over at Pricelessware, being systematic.
Incidentally, Susan, I suggested a couple of appz that can knock a few from
your wishlist. Did you see it?

hee, hee, have a nice pillage.

Hanging *my* head in shame - I meant to respond and lost track of your
post.

The wishlist:

is Genna Reeney's creation. I know nothing. :)

I suggest you repost - and add *ping Genna* to the subject.

I can't find any freeware version. Demoware, yes, that expires in 30

No its not... There is a Windows version

Impressive, but...

Ragtime does not maintain the transparency of imported png or gif
raster images

Does not maintain drop-shadows of imported emf or wmf vector images

Very limited text effects. Drop-shadows can only be created by
superimposing duplicate text on top of one another, and it is quite a
chore to make their backgrounds transparent.

However, it does a superb job of flowing text from one paragraph to
another, even across objects. It does an outstanding job of cloning
business card layouts for labels, etc.

The Freeware Ragtime also does not include Spellchecking.
