free newsserver x-privat down?

It hasn't worked all day for me. I get Socket Error # 10060 Connection
timed out.

I'm using it now @2:45pm CDT - though it has been exhibiting slow to
very slow periods lately. Can you set your timeout to a longer period?
 
I've had problems with it off and on for the past couple of weeks. I
keep shifting back and forth between the news. and newsgate. servers,
which seems to help but requires downloading all the postings again each
time.

Cross-copy your newsrc files and rename them. Should put things in sync.
