For all of us who have The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim installed there are good old fashioned home baked mods, quests and a whole lot more available at no cost. After all those avaricious slimy douchebags trying to charge us hapless gamers for what they like to call 'DLC' the openness of Bethesda, the Skyrim publishers, comes as a breath of fresh air.

No doubt some of you Skyrim perps have already sussed it but if you're not aware here's how you load the freebies. Go to your Library in Steam, and click on The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. On the right you should see a button to go to Steam Workshop where you can browse all the available extras.

As a suggestion for a new quest to start with try 'Sea Of Ghosts' it's good. Tick the Quests box, browse to Sea Of Ghosts and subscribe then when you next start Skyrim the mod will install.

A lot of money was made from sales of Skyrim so it's refreshing to see the licence holders encouraging the modding community to supply 'free DLC' for all those who bought the game.

Most excellent :D

If any folk out there want to comment or pass opinion on anything they've tried for Skyrim from the Steam Workshop, please feel free to add your experiences to this thread.

Spent three hours today playing the Sea Of Ghosts mod. DLC without having to pay £10 is definitely good :)

In case any Skyrim players were wondering how to start this quest once it's been subscribed to, it starts with a ship docked at the East Empire Trading Company which is near Solitude. If you've played the game awhile Solitude will almost certainly be on the map and the Trading Company may be. Both were there in my game so I fast travelled to the Trading company pier, spoke to Roggnar the Captain and went on board.

From there you can charter the ship for 5000 gold, speak to the crew members who will give you missions, then go into the cabin where there is a map from which you can choose destinations to sail to.

And this is just one mod / quest of many.

For free

Not free DLC but free anyway an probably of interest to someone.

Bethesda loves to pack their games full of pop culture references, callbacks to previous games, and all sorts of clever easter eggs for those dedicated enough to discover them. Skyrim is a massive game, and while it'll undoubtedly be some time before the community uncovers all of its secrets, here are ten of the best easter eggs we've found so far.
Like Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3, Skyrim is equally loaded with such content despite its admittedly darker, and more somber setting. Bethesda may have shifted away from the light hearted whimsy of Morrowind, but they've spared no expense at making Skyrim every bit as amusing where it needs to be.
