I haven't heard of one, but going by Norton's track record a freeware crash
guard would probably manage to only artifically create twice as many crashes.

Haven't heard of ANY program that actually prevents or reduces the number of
"crashes."

Sure don't hear much about those types of programs anymore.... probably
because none of 'em worked and nuthin' the folks can concoct today work,
either.

I'd look for reasons why ye be havin' crashes. I have Win98SE and it is
mighty stable.

Perhaps a scrubbing of the hard drive and reinstalling the O/S and
everything else will bring ye back to normalcy.

Or...... perhaps an overheating problem? RAM going bad? Clean the machine
lately? The connectors between the cards, RAM, and the motherboard?

I'd dig a bit before considering some lame crash guard.

Yeah; I think Norton gave up on CrashGuard around 2000 -- largely,
IIRC, because it caused more aggro than it solved.

I've turned my 98SE from an aggravating freezing, crashing nuisance to
a quite stable and satisfying OE by a) replacing Norton Suite
bloatware with AVG Free; b)minimizing IE usage to only when necessary
by defaulting to Opera 7, c) tuning/cleaning up with PC Booster
regularly (although not freeware, but looks like EasyCleaner Freeware
provides a similar efficacy), and d) running AdAware and Spybot S&D
weekly after installing Spywareblaster as a sentinel.

Jibreel Anticrash 5. Hard to find, but I still have a copy. I need to
upload it to my site sometime :)
