Since we are not utilizing an MS Exchange server, I thought the next best
thing would be to publish free/busy info to our server. I was able to post
my info, but when someone uses that same server path under my contact setup,
Outlook does not find the free/busy info. What am I doing wrong?

Version of Outlook? How are you publishing it? Does the other user have the
necessary permissions?

Outlook 2003. I am actually testing it on my own machine, so I set up a
dummy contact and attached my calendar file path to it. I published it using
Tools>Options>Calendar Options>Free/Busy Options>Publish at my location.

did you make a dummy outlook profile for the other contact and test with
that? what path did you enter?

No, I don't think outlook is that smart. It should simply be looking for the
free/busy file for that contact as entered in the contact's info. I will try
to be more clear on what I did.

My profile -
I published my free/busy time using Tools>Options>Calendar Options>Free/Busy
Options>Publish at my location. I entered
"file://\\server\folder\calendar.vfb"
This worked. My vfb showed up on the server in that location.

Test (dummy) contact -
Following the instructions from MS knowledge base article 827775, under this
Test contact, on the details tab, in the Internet Free-busy address box I
entered "file://\\server\folder\calendar.vfb"
This does not seem to work. Any suggestions on where the error lies?

the dummy needs to log into outlook and let outlook upload his FB so you
have something to see...

How does Outlook know the file was not uploaded by the dummy contact? Is
there a qualifier that links that F/B file to only my profile? Seems to me
that Outlook should load the F/B file it is pointed to under the contact's
info. In fact, I created a new contact with my information and it won't load
the file either. There must be something wrong in the path that tells
Outlook where to look for the information, but I followed Microsoft's
directions.

Any other ideas?

Hmmm...ok, this is strange. I had a couple of coworkers try to set this up
and here are the results:
Coworker using Outlook 2007: worked just fine
Coworker using Outlook 2003: does not work. Won't load F/B info.

Not sure why it works with one and not the other
