As a charitable endeavor I refurbish computers and donate them to needy
families. We have a great donor that purchases the operating system for
each computer, but the rest of the software is up to me to scrounge up.
I had been putting trial versions of Norton on the systems, but I know most
of them will never be updated. Since I donate the computers to individuals
I think they would qualify for the free user license.
I may be opening a big debate here, should I put AVG or AVAST on the
computers? Most of the computers are PII or III systems with 128-256MB
memory and dial up connections.

Personally I'd go for AVG.

I think the AVG terms state that it is free for a single home pc , the AVAST
terms are probably similar (but I haven't checked). Whilst you might be
fine (because you are passing the pcs on to people), technically you are
probably in breach of their terms and conditions. Why not drop them an
e-mail and ask? If one says yes and the other no, then its a no brainer
which to use.

Its nice to know someone is putting old pcs to good use.

Especially ensuring they have a long-term antivirus solution as part
of the deal. Kudos to the original poster for this philosophy!
