Okay, I bought a vocal/instrumental mike for my computer. I had to get a converter to switch from the quater-inch end to a smaller headset size to fit in the soundcard in the back. The mike is brand new, and of high-quality (it better be anyway, with the price I paid for it). Anyway, I set the mike up in the appropriate port and did everything that I could do to make it work. And yet the dumb thing still won't pick up, I have to scream in the mike just to get a wee-little sound to register. The microphone wizard tells me it is "too-soft" yet I have the volume at max. I probably wouldn't be as annoyed at the situation, but when it works fine on a 3-4 year old soundcard in my families Presario there obviously is a real problem since my computer is brand new with the Sound Audigy 2 soundcard in it. I hope I am an idiot and that new sound cards won't pick up the type of mike I am using, but it seems hard to believe that a newer soundcard wouldn't.

Do you have the record gain slider up..? (not the mic volume slider).? Also
their is a option to boost the mic gain with a check in the box.

It is probably the mike. There are several types of mics (condenser,
dynamic, etc). Your new expensive mic just might not be compatible with the
soundcard. Try using a regular mic designed for computer use and see if it
works OK.

In sound properties uncheck the -20dB setting if it is set. Try a cheap
computer microphone, many can be had for just a few $$. If that works,
then there is a high resistance or impedance in the instrumental mic
that makes it incompatible with the computer input.

Did you try to run the Creative Diagnostic tool?????

Try downloading and installing the latest version of DirectX 9.0b. That did it for me
