I read a thread recently that said that frames shouldnt be used? I know that
used to be the case because some browsers didnt support frames, is that
still the case? Or are there other reason not to use frames?

No, all major browser support frames.

However the first issue is that when using frames, and you want to be index
by the search engines, that your individual pages are index outside of the
frameset, so you either have put a link on every page, that will then load
the frameset, and the user have to click their way back to the page or
section they where on, or you have use JavaScript to create a dynamic
frameset that will always load the page from the search engine within the
frameset.

The second issue that is not easy for your site visitors to bookmark
specific pages.

Hi Tim,

One major drawback to using frames is the way pages can be listed in search
engines. Often times individual pages will show..but when clicked on will
open up outside of the actual frameset..causing a lack of navigation. This
problem can be overcome..but it means extra work. To me it doesn't seem
worth all of the extra effort involved..so I tend to not use them much.
