I learned the hard way that FrontPage hover buttons require FP extensions on
the server. As luck would have it, my web host does not support FP
extensions. So, I removed the hover buttons & shared borders and created a
frame set that serves my needs. Problem is, I created text boxes in the
left frame, turned them into hyperlinks with the target frame as the right
frame and when I click on the hyper link, it displays the desired page in
both the target frame (on the right) and the left frame where the nav
buttons (text boxes) were.

How did this happen & how can I fix it?

Hover buttons, shared borders do NOT require the remote server to have the
FP extensions. The hover button require the user to have a Java Virtual
Machine (JVM) installed which is no longer provided within Windows XP or IE
6 or NS 6 and up. Shared Border only require the FP extensions for some of
the features.

I suggest that you either use text or image links, if you want all users to
see/use your links.

Okay, guess I was wrong about the extensions. In any case, it looks like I
am on the right path now as I created "buttons" using text boxes and made
them into hyperlinks. However, I still have the same problem with respect
to where the linked page shows up. I wanted to keep my nav buttons in the
left frame and have the new (linked) page show up in the right frame.
Instead, it shows up in both the left and right frames.

How are you create the "text" box?

I used the drawing tool bar, selected a standard shape, then added text to
it. I selected the text box then clicked on the hyperlink button. Then
selected the link page and identified the target frame.

Ok, this doesn't work well for browser's other than IE, as it uses absolute
positioning and VML Graphics.

Make sure the navigation page, in html view does have a base target value
set in the head section of the page.

Then what would you recommend? This is my first attempt at creating a web
site and I simply wanted some navigation buttons on the left to control what
is displayed on the right.

I looked in FP help but could not find what I needed.

Plain text or image hyperlink in a table/cells.

Use a image application to make the images with the required text, save as
GIF images, import into your current open FP web, insert on your page, then
right click each, hyperlink and set the link to your page and the frame
target value to the actual name of the frame you want the link to open in,
