Fragmented NTLDR file

Diskeeper is reporting that my ntldr file is fragmented. Repeated running of
diskeeper will not unfragment the file.

All is running OK but should I be concerned with this? Previous times I have
ran diskeeper all files were defragged. Why this one?

Thanks

It is odd that it should get fragmented. But it only gets used once in
any session - it is the initial loader for the system. So as long as
things are loading and running, I should not worry too much. Perhaps
make a copy to a floppy that could easily be restored *should* it later
give trouble

Thanks Alex.

I will make a copy for safekeeping.

If/when this file stops working, what sort of problem will I have?

Thanks

It would be a failure to boot. Maybe ntldr missing (there are other
possible causes for that) maybe just hanging. You would then need to
boot the XP CD; take the R option, and use the DOS style copy command to
copy it back. The sequence:

ATTRIB -H -R -S C:\ntldr
COPY A:\ntldr C:\ntldr
ATTRIB +H +R +S C:\ntldr

BTW while making such a backup I would also include C:\boot.ini and the
two activation database files - c:\windows\system32\wpa.dbl and wpa.bak
- just in case of damage to any of them, which does seem to happen
occasionally. It will all go on a floppy
