Dear Experienced FrontPage Users

I am doing a simple web site - not much experience at it - and am using
FrontPage 98.

I would like to place a graphic on top of a colored table (see
www.siebenthaler.com ). How do you export a graphic and in what format that
eliminates the white background, leaving only the logo to lay on top of the
green?

I have and use CorelDraw, Photoshop.

TIA,

Kelly Kirsch

Save image as a GIF, with a transparent background. Create the image with
the same background as your cell color, then set that color to be
transparent.

Thomas,

Thank you so much for a quick reply. It was the creating background color
same as the cell that kept throwing me. I kept saving it as white. Take a
peek at www.siebenthaler.com. I think I've got it.

Many thanks again for your advice.

Looks good, however put a little more color above the logo, maybe 3 to 6
pixels.

Not in the logo itself, but on your page in the cell.

Also, you might reconsider how you've created the text. Use actual text
instead of all images. Of course, I don't know what else you're doing on the
page, so I might be jumping the gun.

I agree with you completely. In fact, I would love to, but am uncertain as
to how I can place the text over the graphic of the tree.

I would also like to split the main table into two more cells so I can
separate the new and improved from the tree hotline. Nest a table? Not
sure of that's the right word...

Thanks much to all for their input. I'm so used to being able to easily
manipulate things in a graphics or DTP program, that the constraints of web
development plainly has me confused.

Yes, I think you're correct. I will give this a try, too.

Many thanks,

Nesting a table is putting one inside another. That's often useful, but you
can just split your bottom cell into 2 columns and place the tree in the
right and the other stuff in the left. See here: http://tinyurl.com/mu6j for
a makeover of your page. Good luck

I started in print design also, so I understand the shift you're having to
make. I worked in Ventura Publisher and CorelDRAW for years. My work with
structured documents (magazines and books) helped me with the transition as
designing for the web is easiest done when you're used to working with a
grid. However, I totally understand wanting to have the text knock out on
the tree, and how you want to control the look of your text, but now's the
time to just make the switch and give up some of the things you did before,
before you cause yourself a lot of work that you'll want to redo and fix
later. Remember that when you're creating a flyer and you knock text out of
an image (like your tree), your reader is likely to only be looking at a few
pieces... a flyer he picked up, something in his junk mail, a few ads in the
newspaper. However, your websurfer may be spending hours at the computer,
and his tired eyes need clear and simple design. Good luck and feel free to
post here for help whenever you like.
