When you install FP2k onto a WinXP Pro PC do you get the notice about 50
uses before required activation/registration?

Yes, certain versions of FP2000 do require activation.

When FP2000 / Office 2000 was first released, the Activation was only in
copies sold outside of the USA/Canada, then later on it was implement via a
release that include Service Pack 1.

I do have the retail version of FP2k. It does have SR-1 on it. So does
SR-1 include Service Pack 1?

SR and SP are similar, so it might be the case. If activation is required,
it would have been noted on the retail packaging.

I no longer have the retail packaging. You would think MS would not
only keep the PID, but records of versions purchased. At the least you
would think MS would have what specific differences exist between the
different versions, and make it available via a web page.

Greg,

Really, what is the big deal, if you install it and it requires activation,
you activate it if you want to continue to use after the trial period.

If you install and activation is not required, then you just use it.

You are not required to actually register the application, in either case.

I most definitely learned out of this conversation. I should always
keep the box/packaging.

Ok,

Avoid:
purchasing software from eBay, etc.
purchasing software from flea market/computer shows, etc.
purchasing software when the price is too good to be true.

Be carefully when buying computer with pre-install software from small
retailers, etc.

Purchase software from nationwide retailers.
