FP2003 Sharepoint Customization Problem - Repost

I am reposting this question in hopes of getting an answer this time.
Stephan suggested applying the latest TR of Office 2003 and FP2003 which
was certainly a good idea but had no effect on the problem at hand. To wit:

I can use FP2003 to modify a brand new default.aspx for a WSS site, but
after adding any webparts, further attempts to modify the site receive:

"The server could not complete your request.
Contact your Internet service provider or Web Administrator to make sure
the server
has FrontPage extensions or SharePoint services installed.

For more specific information, click the Details button"

Clicking on the Details button results in a nice empty message box.

Removing all webparts does nothing to change this scenario.
I can recreate at will.

the same symptoms occur on all subsite default.aspx created from a
template generated from this original.

Is this a known bug?
Does anyone want to know about bugs?

Right now, no, no one wants to know about bugs. The beta
test period is over, and the rtm bits aren't yet available.

Your best bet is probably to wait for the "gold" bits of
WSS and FP2003 to be available, then perform clean
installs of both, and then retry your scenario. If the
problem persists, at least you'll be on a supported
version (i.e. one with people who care about bugs).

In the meantime:

o What versions of WSS and FP2003 are you running?
o How did you create these new Web parts?
o How did you install them?

WSS and FP2003 are TR versions (all most recent publicly available).
Web parts are all WSS-supplied except the Office Web Capture webpart -
no custom or third-party code yet.
The Office webparts were installed all in one go by an executable
downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/downloads/components/detail.asp?a=308

pilot projects on beta code are so much fun
(of course it was my idea)

My guess is that the Microsoft Office Web Parts and Components (Beta
2) are compiled for, uh, Beta 2, and not for the TR.

DOH!
and BINGO!
The tricky part was not just "Closing" the out of step Web Capture web
parts so that they did not appear on the page,
but re-adding and DELETING them.
I can now edit the page, and having exported the web parts, I can re
import them with little trouble

THANKS!
