And you won't, as it is not an option.

If you want to do this you'll have to edit the gallery page.
look for the page real.htm in the folder FrontPage has stored your
thumbnails in. open it and click the first thumbnail on the page, select
hyperlink properties, target, and set _blank (new page), there is a check
box for "make page default" select that. save and close the page, now when
you publish it, all the pictures will open in a new window. You've got to
do this everytime you use the gallery dialog box because FrontPage will
overwrite your little "mod".
HTH

You can simply set this for the default link target of thepage with the
gallery.

but then links for other things (navigation) on the gallery page will open
in a new window also.

You can manually insert tags just ahead of them that change the default page
target for those sections. Even navigation bars. :)

Here is a sample of what I just stated.... The first navigation bar opens
in links in the page default target, but the second navigation bar opens up
links in a new window.

<!--webbot bot="Navigation" S-Type="children" S-Orientation="horizontal"
S-Rendering="graphics" B-Include-Home B-Include-Up U-Page
S-Target --></font></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="center" width="100%" valign="bottom"><base target="_blank">

<!--webbot bot="Navigation" S-Type="sequence" S-Orientation="horizontal"
S-Rendering="graphics" B-Include-Home="FALSE" B-Include-Up="FALSE"
U-Page="sid:1142" --></td>
</tr>
</table></center>

whatever you want to do is fine. the fact is that setting the default on
the real.htm page is the easiest way and quickest way to get the gallery to
throw the full-size images in a new window.
I got a t-shirt from Microsoft for the tip. why don't you give it a try.

Now if you can figure out how to set it, so that the picture comes up
centered, that would certainly be something I would be willing to try :)

You have to actually place the large image on to individual page, then
change the link from the thumbnail to point to the page with the large image
instead of directly to the large image.

Thanks, people, for the tip. It will be good if FP have a simple
setting to put the pic at the middle.

Google for "Web Page Generator" and use that, must easier and quicker than
FP for making thumbnail sites. Click on the thumbnail and the pic goes full
size.
