I have been struggling to understand the differences (if any) in the end
result of these two procedures. They are used to publish monthly attendance
reports (authored in Word XP).
Procedure 1 (by the book):
1) Author report in Word XP. Save as .doc for future revision (if
any).
2) Save as: Web Page to a temporary folder outside of my local Web
(disk based for authoring & development).
3) Open FP, Open Web, Import report from Temporary folder to
attendance folder within local web designed to hold attendance reports.
4) Add Hyperlink to navigation page pointing to new document.
5) Publish to production web server.
6) Clean up temporary folder.
Procedure 2 (streamlined):
1) Author report in Word XP. Save as .doc for future revision (if
any).
2) Save as: Web Page to attendance folder within my local Web (local
disk based for authoring & development.
3) Open FP, Open Web, Add Hyperlink to navigation page pointing to
new document.
4) Publish to production web server.
I had concerns that procedure 2 would not appropriately register the new
document with the data dictionary. However, it appears that this is
happening when I build the Hyperlink between the Nav page & the report. I
have confirmed this by renaming & moving the report & verified that all
appropriate hyperlinks were auto-magically updated.
The $64000 question: Is there a downside risk to using the streamlined
procedure 2 that I have missed? If so, please advise me of the end effect
on the production web.
This scenario is highly summarized to represent a cycle that I need to do
about 200 times a month for various reports. I am very interested in keeping
the procedure short & simple.
Thank you for your time,
Larry
