Howdy all...

Finally got my new machine up and running with XP Pro SP1...should I install
SP2 before I install FP03?

Office 2003 is already installed, are there any updates/service packs that
should be installed first - also kinda lost with XP (a bit overwhelming the
first coupla hours) - dunno what SP Office 2003 is, or how to find info.

Can't even type correctly with this newfangled keybpard...feel like such a
noob.

Tnx,

Cool

Install SP 2
Then install FP 2003
Then install the Office updates.

Great, thanks man.

IIS is on the XP Pro CD right?
But I have to get the FP extensions from where?..online?

Real excited about having a server on local machine again!

Still stumbling along trying to find stuff on XP...but definitely cool
setup. What a difference over the olden days...sheesh...just put the CD in
and walk away?...no IRQs fdisk format...ridiculously easy.

Thanks again!

R.

the FPSE are on the disk too.... (as part of the IIS).
else download them from Microsoft.

Install IIS and FP extensions from the Windows CD, then FP, then make sure IIS and the FP2000
extensions are working, then if want download and install the FP2002 extensions.

Thomas,

Ok,,,I feel like a total noob now.

I did not install FP2003 yet.

I installed IIS (5.1 I think it said), and also the 2000 extensions, then
downloaded 2002 extensions and the security update and installed that.

They seem to be on the hd, but I don't see Admininstration stuff in Contrl
Panel as I expected. I can browse to ismgr and read stuff.

How to test?
Am I there...or only half way?

Rob: It's under Administrative Tools | Microsoft Sharepoint Administrator.
Make sure IIS is running as well as World Wide Web Publishing under

Hey Tom,

Thanks for responding.

I forgot to mention; I'm also XP Pro "challenged"...just installed that
too...so I'm kinda stumbling around here.

Yep, there it is in Administrative Tools, but I have to browse to to that
folder..I thought it would show up somewhere, like in Control Panel (?).

tnx,

R.

Yep, IIS Admin & WWW are both running.

Rob -
In the IIS console, are you able to perform any of the items listed on the "Tasks" context
dialog for the 2002 items? Also from the Properties dialog | Server Extensiond 2002 (on
the web) can you do anything?
In both places I get a logon prompt, and I don't know what it wants.....
MikeR 1st

Dunno, haven't played around with it yet. It was a flawless install (most of
the fumbling was me not knowing XP) after I installed IIS and the extensions
and FP I opened my webs on the server and Published all of them to
localhost...no problems...so I will leave IIS alone till I have time to mess
with it - I did look at basic stuff though..looks like its all there :-)

FP2003 is very cool.

I did just notice that the three webs I Published to the localhost appear as
subwebs under the goofy cryptic root name that xp gave my machine...so maybe
I did sumpin incorrect in down-Publiwshing

You have published correctly, IIS under Windows XP Pro can only have a single root web and a
unlimited number of subwebs/sites.

Localhost is the same as your machine name, however always publish the same way (use one or the
other, do not mix)

Whew.

SO...what's with the image folder and couple of other folders up in the root
on local host?
===
....sheesh...oh great...now localhost is not available since I tried to
update to NET Framework 1.1...man all I was trying to do was install
QuickBooks...looks like this will be an all-nighter

bbl

nevermind..I got it sussed out.
I see what the images and other stuff is for now as well.

Every FP web or subweb will have a images and a _private folder, do not delete them.
