Whenever I attempt to go to the following website, the system trys to
"install" Frontpage, or a portion of it. I press Cancel and it trys again.
I think I need to press Cancel 3 or 4 times before it stops trying to
Install... I have frontpage 2000.

What is causing this and how can I get this to stop happening?

This is the web page that I have the problem on:

I wouldn't go to that site with my junk computer from what you say.

You are trying to view the site in IE, correct?

I do not have a problem viewing this site in IE 6 and I use FP2000.

Yes, I am using IE 6. I have Windows XP on a Dell 4700.

I installed FP on this PC last year when I got this computer. I used the
installation disk that I had from my Windows 98 machine that I junked. I
went through all the Windows Updates to make sure it was at the latest patch
level.

I noticed back then when I visited some other website I got the same
"Install" attempt. I just put the Frontpage 2000 SR-1 disk in and everything
went OK. I figured that Frontpage did not do a complete install when I
installed it and when it ran accross something that needed another Frontpage
component it just attempted to install at that point.

It's sort of scary when you click on a website and you see the Install
Wizard start running... What could possibly be on the web page that would
need something from FP to be "installed"? I looked at the source for that
page, but my HTML skills are no where near at the level that would be able to
figure that out.

Try running a re-install and make sure everything is set to run from your computer, do not select
any thing dealing with the FP extensions.

Mr. Soup. 2 questions.

1).. What happens if you just bring up FP2000 by itself? Do you get the same
message?

2)... Do you/Did you have the org. W98 FP Disk in your CD Drive when you
visitted the Web Site?

Here are the answers to your questions.
1) When I bring up FP2000 by itself everything thing works fine. No errors,
no installation messages. I can edit and publish just fine.
2) No I did not have the FP2000 disk in my CD drive. I haven't had that
thing out of it's case since last November when I installed it on this PC.

If you place this Disk into your CD Drive and then browse to your Website -
do you see any CD 'green light' activity - as your messages come up?

Then, after the 'install' messages have finished, close off your Browser and
FP, if open, then, try again - a second time - to browse to your web.

Do you still get the message?

I have IE6 and FP2002, and I have encountered the same problem on various web
sites, the links of which I do not have at this time. I have to hit cancel
several times for the download to stop. I considered it some kind of
security risk problem, and purchased Norton IS 2006 thinking that would
prevent the download attempt. It seems to happen on sites that are using
fastclick ads.

Why would any site you have simply browsed to attempt to download FP? It
seems there is malicious motives involved.

That's the same thing I thought... there must be something pretty malicious
going on for a web site hit to cause a piece of s/w to be attempted to be
installed. You would think MS would have some sort of patch for this. I
too have Norton and keep it up-to-date. Nothing gets downloaded unless it
asks me... however this FP install looks different. It looks like I'm
attempting to load FP on my own. This is not good.

I have FP installed correctly (as far as I know) on my PC. I can edit and
publish all the web sites I need. I don't want to uninstall FP and attempt
to re-install it. I could never figure out how that woould help any thing
in the first place... after all, if I already installed FP why would
un-installing it and re-installing it help anything. I would be right back
where I am.
