Does anyone have experience of using commercial FrontPage templates such
as marketed by PixelMill

and FrontPage Templates.com

I would be most interested in knowing of any problems or pitfalls.

Never found a commericial template yet (that i've got my hands on) from
anywhere that did not have CSS or Html problems I needed to fix.

Be prepared to fix those problems .... if you buy one and fix them ... sent
a list back of the problems to the place you bought it from and ask for a
reduction in the price, you won't get one probably.

Also I don't use hacks in my css and that might happen in commercial
templates too.
I also like to fix all warnings in the css too.

make to sure to ask if it validates in ie7 as well.

If you go for a custom one you will have more control.. you can ask ahead of
time that it validates for html and css and specify the doctype you want..

I'd go with Karey of http://rtbwizards.com she's about the best commerical
template coder I know of.

omg on the link for pixelmill .. a seo misfire if I ever saw one, hope they
did 301 redirects ..I'll update that in my links..ugh.

Thank you Tina - I've looked at Karey's site and what I see I like.

BTW - Please explain:

Was this my fault in copying the URL for that page?

Nope... plug in pixelmill.com and it will redirect to the new url and you
get a bunch of numbers in ( ) ... surely there is better way to code the
site urls.

They have had pixelmill.com since before 1999 (can't remember when they
started) why lose all that se standing and have this kind of url .. you
can't even remember it.. no doubt something to do with the cart .. it must
be complicated with the inventory they have but there must be a better way
others don't have that kind of problem. I was just hoping they had used a
301 redirect.. I'm sure they did so. I noticed they have a 30 day (I think
it was) guarantee on there templates you can give it back if you don't like
the results....not sure I Karey has one of those or not ... but it's a good
practice and ensures you will get what you want. One or two fixes I don't
mind.
