Anyone know if fp 2003 requires (like previous versions) finding a host that
has the fp 2003 server extensions? I seem to remember that it took some
time for hosts to get the latest extensions for fp 2002.

There are no new server extensions for FP2003 - the ones for FP2002 will do
just fine.

From what I have heard, FPSE 2002 will be the latest in the
line. FP2003 will work with these or with Sharepoint Team
Services

Is the use of extensions still mandatory ? I was hoping that eventually MS
would get rid of them on the server at least. I've had to many difficulties with
them getting corrupted. Currently I'm editing my pages in FP and saving to disk
followed by publishing with CuteFTP Pro to my Linux server.

Basically with FP2003, you really don't need the extensions if you are
hosted on Windows IIS with SharePoint. However if you are hosted with a host
that will not be supporting SharePoint or a Unix/Linux host then you will
need the extensions to get the most benefits of using FP, such as managing
your site and having the ability to work directly on the live site, etc.

What issues have you had with the extensions that cause you to wish that
there were no extensions?

So this hasn't changed significantly for 2003 then.

They just seem to get corrupted easily.

Please tell us what version of the FP extensions your host is using, and
define what you mean by "corrupted easily"...

John,

Some of the hype surround FrontPage Server Extensions and FrontPage 2003 is
just that. However, FrontPage 2003 is the first version of FrontPage to
support WebDAV for publishing, so it is entirely possible to not use the
Server Extensions or FTP and still have a robust publishing solution.

Extensions are v.2002. Corrupted = not working normally/correctly. In the
past I've had FP suddenly not detect directories that were on the server
and there was other anomalous behavior though that was all several
months ago and I don't remember the details.

I'm sure. I'm well aware of the Lnux vs. MS atteitude of a lot of servers.

I'm looking into this but it seems that this takes a specific kind of
server. Is that accurate ?
