FP 2002 Publishing question

I need to publish a website from 2 different computers. The files are located
on a network directory. I can publish successfully on the first computer,
however when I make a change to one page and try to publish from the second
computer, FP is telling me all the pages need to be published. Is there
anyway to get this second computer to reconize that that website has been
published and just publish the changed page?
 
Yah, after you publish from A to B (B being your online server) then Publish
from B to C, now C will be in cahoots with B. Now work on C and publish to
B...of course then A will be outta sync so Publish from B to A before
working locally on A.

Rob,
The problem is that we have two different authors. How can I get their FP to
sync up? Should they publish from the same working directory to the site or
use another method.

I *believe* you'd do it the same way - although, I've never done it with
separate authors...only me jumping from machine to machine.

The problems is when the second author tries to publish, FP says every page
has changed and he will have to publish the whole site again. Should I just
open the website in FP and forget publishing to it?

What are your thoughts?
 
The second author should Publish from remote server to local first, before
working on it locally...then Publish _changes_ back to the server.

Alternative is for both authors to work live on the server, then publish
back to their machine when finished...but this isn't very safe. And, I'm not
sure what happens if both authors are working live at the same time...one of
the gurus will have to address this question.

Do as Rob said - Publish from the server to the computer being used to
edit. Edit. Publish back to the server.
When two or more authors are involved you have the following options:

1)work on the live site - not recommended,

2)publish from the live site to local computer, edit, publish back,

3)use an intermediary site to work on, and make one person responsible
for publishing from there to the live site.
 
I've done this before and it can be a mess.

The concept has already been described very accurately already by Rob &
Ronx. Concept is this. When you begin to modify a file on the server (from
any location) you must publish to your local computer first. Now you have
the latest copy. Make your changes then publish it to the server as already
described.

The problem is this. Once you have the latest copy on your computer, you
need to makes sure nobody else is working on the project. That way, it
prevents both of you from publishing to your local computers at the same
time and believing that you have the latest copy. If both of you do this at
the same time, then neither of you will have the latest copy. Your friend
will undo your work and you will undo his work too.

You can't both be updating at the same time. Create a schedule??
