FP 2002 keeps requesting install of a feature

Whenever I start FrontPage 2002, after a few seconds it
halts, displays a dialog box that says: "Installing
Microsoft FrontPage Feature". This happens everytime,
despite the fact that FP-2002 has been completely
installed on my system, using the option to request that
all features be installed onto my hard drive, not from the
CD. If I ignore the request, I get this error
message: "Microsoft FrontPage has not been installed for
the current user. Please run Setup to install the
application." I have done that, the problem still
persists. If I select the option to continue loading the
feature, it asks for the FP-2002 CD, appears to load
something from it, and then finishes the loading and I can
use FP. It's a hassle to have to do this every time. Any
ideas?

I am running Windows 2000 Pro, and FP-2002 says it can run
under Win-2K and I have done so for nearly a year now,
without any visible problems, except this continual asking
to load the CD so it can pretend to install a feature!

I have even uninstalled FP completely, and reinstalled it
from the CD, again specifying that all FP components are
to be copied to the hard drive. Same results.

On the off-chance that any of you ever run into this
situation, evidently I encountered the dreaded
registration of software issue that is, unfortunately, the
distinguishing characteristic of Win-XP and Office-XP.
You see, since FrontPage 2002 is sold as a stand-alone
product, and suggested for users of Win-2K, as well as Win-
XP, I ended up with it installed on a Win-2K system.

Evidently the constant dialog box indicating that FP
wanted to install a feature, and not functioning until I
loaded the FP CD and let it pretend to load a feature, was
in fact, a botched attempt to ask me to register the
product. Since I had never registered it in the first
place, this is after all, FP-2002, not FP-XP running under
Win-2K, it never occurred to me that I might have to
register software running under Win-2K.

However I recently replaced two ancient and smallish Hard
Drives with a newer, larger HD, this time when I fired up
FrontPage-2002, it said it detected that I had made
significant changes in my hardware environment, duh, and
insisted that I register FP-2002 in order to be able to
use its full functionality! I slipped in the FP-2002 CD
when asked to, registered the product, my first time as I
don't have Win-XP, and it now seems happy and didn't ask
me to perform a bogus "feature install".

Had Microsoft indicated that FrontPage 2002 was an XP
product, workable only under Win-XP I would never have
purchased it for use on a Win-3K system.

Office XP and individual Office 2002 products are all the same, and have
always required activation, no matter which Windows OS they are installed
on. The only difference is that with Office, you activate all of the
included Office product at one time. Registration is optional.

Bob,

FrontPage 2002 comes with Office XP. There is no FrontPage XP.

FrontPage 2002 requires activation on any operating system you install it
on. Your issue is not because you are running Windows 2000.

If you haven't activated since changing your hard drive, you will need to do
that. Registration is not required, but activation is.
