Does it shut off or shut down..

The reason I ask is cause normally a "forced power off" is done after about
3 seconds of the button being pressed in.. But XP/2k/NT all allow you to
configure how the system will react to the power button being pressed.. The
options are shut down/hibernate/sleep/reboot..

It shuts down..off..no more activity.I would like it to delay so a
missplaced foot doesn't turn it off

Down or Off
there is a diffence..
Does it say "Shutting Windows Down"
or when you bump the button does the screen just go black

(Maybe I missed some of this thread but) in WindowsXP Power Options,
Advanced, you can set the Power Switch action to something more friendly
for your needs.

The computer cuts off(dead no more action) if I miss and touch the power
button..I have to start it back up again...

check the BIOS power settings; should be a choice there for function of
pressing your power button. I don't have this board, but my A7V266E's BIOS
has this choice.

Email Asus

I think that the 3sec off switch "RTO/RTF" is hard coded and as such you
shouldnt have this problem..

You need to updated the power supply firmware.

Then your computer is broken.

The computer is not broken, some bios manuals explain how to do this.it's a
simple click on the four second pause before shut off item.but I don't see
it in my manual nor in the bios..I just thought I was missing it somewhere
If you are running Windows XP, the power button should close all your
programs, tell you it's shutting down and then power off the computer.

If it just "goes off" immediately, your mainboard is broken or your kicking
the power switch on the back of the PC on the power supply.

Like I said there is a setting in a lot of bioses that give the option of 4
second pause or 1 second

for instance on page 68 of my asus a7s333 manual it says ...PWR Button <4
Secs [Soft Off]........Regardless of the setting holding the atx switch for
more than 4 secs powers off the system.
if I deselect this.the system goes off immediately if the power button is
accidently touched.
thanks

Ahh.. you found it then, good stuff
I have read this backwards (as I have never bother'd with the setting).. I
thought it was for PWR Button > 4 Secs
Sorry about that ;( ..

looking for the same thing in my p4p800 if possible..
