W2KP/SP4 on a Compaq 1700 laptop. System has run fine for
a few years. Had a failed installation of a network card
recently, and since then the 'Found New Hardware Wizard'
appears on every boot.
When I look at Hardware Manager, it shows a network card
that it wants to install. I click 'uninstall device', and
it's fine until another boot.
Since then I've have occasion to replace the harddrive. I
did a fresh install on the new harddrive (i.e., I didn't
ghost it), and I still get the new hardware wizard on each
boot.
Where is Windows getting the 'impresssion' that there is a
network card to install?
Thanks,
John
