found new hardware problems

I just replaced an older HP printer with a new Canon.
Problem is, is that with both the old printer(parallel),
and the new printer(USB), each time I reboot, the
system 'finds new hardware'. Now this only happens on my
personal computer, not my wife's or the other system on
the network.
Although the printers work without a hitch, and all the
drivers are installed(obviously), it is very annoying.
Has anyone ever experienced this behavior?? And is there
a fix?
Thanks
