Hello!

My two laptops running Windows XP Professional started popping up a "Found
New Hardware Wizard" window each time I boot Windows XP. It says:

"Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard

This wizard helps you install software for:

PCMCIA MTD-0002

What do you want the wizard to do?
* Install the software automatically
* Install from a list or specific location"

However, I didn't plug any new hardware into any of the laptops. I checked
the Device Manager and there isn't there any device not working properly.
Every devices are working properly and well configured. How can I get rid of
this configuration wizard and why is it appearing? If I choose to install the
software automatically it ends up saying that it couldn't find any software
for the device.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you very much for all the attention given.

Kind regards,
Rui Nunes

This problem is common with HP Laptops. Go back to Device Manager
and try disabling Card Reader or PCMCIA Controller.

Hello!

My laptops are Samsung and Fujitsu and they do not have any PCMCIA card
installed, nor do they have any Card Reader. Isn't this problem related with
any update for Windows XP?

Best regards,

The detection of MTD-0002 is a side effect of a resource conflict.
You should not attempt to locate and install an MTD-0002 driver.

"PC Cards Are Not Recognized in Windows 2000 on Compaq Presario 1200-Series Laptop Computers"

In this article, there is mention of MTD-002. And they suggest it means
the PCMCIA device is not identified properly (so where ever the config
info is stored, it didn't get read). (Look for "PCMCIA\MTD-0002" on this page.)

And in this article

http://www.proxim.com/support/techbulletins/TB-054.pdf

"If the problem persists or you receive an “MTD-0002†error or other
unknown PC Card issue: The BIOS is unable to allocate the required
memory resources for the card. A mis-mapping has occurred causing
the PC Card to be mis-detected. A BIOS upgrade that addresses this
issue will be required from the OEM/Computer manufacturer."

Have you tried changing the BIOS setting for Plug and Play ?
Usually, there are two options for it, [Yes] and [No].
Try the opposite setting of what is currently being used
and see if the symptoms improve.
