Forwarding of domain name to subweb

I am experiencing a frustrating problem.

Having registered a domain for a client: www.radooni.co.uk with 1&1 and
forwarded to folder within the root web, everything is great within IE, but
if the user enters the domain within AOL's own browser or is an ntl (cable)
user using IE there are horrendous delays in loading the page, but eventually
it does.

I have several domain names directed to the root web, all of which perform
correctly within AOL and ntl, the problem only seems to come when forwarding
to a folder or subweb.

Any advice would be welcome.

how have you set up the forwarding, via a function of the registrar?
can you forward it to a specific page in the root or is it only a folder
forward?

Hi Chris,

Correct, the registrar's system allows a choice of directing a domain to the
root, or to a specified forwarding destination, in this case
www.stafford4u.co.uk/radooni whereupon the index file in that folder will
open.

I'm probably doing something basic completely wrong, the danger of being
self taught! Thanks :)

for a test, redirect it to a folder in the root of your web (other than the
subweb you're having trouble with) and see how fast that comes up.

if it's good, you can simply put an index file in that folder which will
redirect the visitor into the subweb you want them in.

You need to re-think doing forwards, or having domains pointing to folders within a rootweb, if you
concerned about search engine indexing, and there is a possibility of the domains being move to
their own web host account at some point.

Why...

The search engines will index all content for Radooni in one or both of the following formats:
http://www.stafford4u.co.uk/radooni/pagename.htm
http://www.radooni.co.uk/radooni/pagename.htm

if and when the site is move to it own domain account, the path would change to:
http://www.radooni.co.uk/pagename.htm
this would break every search engine link to the site.

Hi Chris and Thomas, helpful advice from both, much appreciated. I am trying
Chris's advice and one other possibility but the registrant seems to take up
to 12 hours to effect the changes, so hopefully by tomorrow I may have a
solution with your assistance.

Kind Regards, Andy
