does anyone know why OE Outlook Express won't open some
of the forwarded attachemnts? They are labeled unsafe.
Whay isn't my Norton correcting this?

Thanks.

Hi Mary;
Google is your friend, this question has been answered in many newsgroups
many, many times.
What you do is:Tools>Options>Security>uncheck 'Do not open
attachments'>apply.
Make sure your anti-virus software is set up to scan e-mails as this leaves
you open to all kinds of viruses.

Click Tools, Options, Security tab. Uncheck "Do not allow attachments to be
saved......................".

It's not that Outlook Express is telling you they are unsafe,
it's rather that it is telling you they are of a type which *can*
contain malicious code (viruses, worms, etc.). Norton doesn't
identify them as problems, because they are not (at least most
them are not) problems.

Whether you are running an anti-virus program or not, such files
can be dangerous. It's up to you whether you want to open such
files, but you should be aware that there's a risk if you do. If
you want to turn this safeguard off, go to Tools | Options, and
on the Security tab, uncheck "Do not allow attachments to be
saved..."

Greetings --

Outlook Express' default security settings are simply trying to
protect you. OE has no way of telling whether an attachment actually
contains a virus or not, so it temporarily blocks any of those file
types that could potentially contain a virus. In Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to
be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option, assuming
you trust the source, of course. The wiser course of action, however,
would be to modify your list of unsafe files, as outlined in the KB
articles below:
