I have got a primary DNS server. The problem is every time i start and stop
the service or re-start the server the forward look up zone seems to
disapear and i have to re-create it again.

I would be grateful if someone can give me some advice/help in this.

Thank you

This should not be happening. You will need to give more info on how this is
setup. The output from doing ipconfig /all from the server will also be
helpful.

I am having the very same problem. I just changed
everything over to Active directory integrated to see if
the problem stops. My problem started about a week or so
ago.

Is the zone a child zone of another zone already on the machine? I've seen
it do it in this scenario since the child belongs under the parent zone.

Curious, in the previous post, your ipconfig /all showed this DNS address:
DNS Servers..............................: 155.8.10.47

Now in your second post, your ipconfig /all showed 192.168.2.47.

Did you just change it?

Was it always using 155.8.10.47 or the 192.168.2.47 address?

Can you provide a screen snapshot of your zone?

Also, if you re-create the zone, did you rt-click on DNS and tell it to
update the server data files?

When you notice the zone disappears, sinve it's a Primary zone, when you
look in winnt\system32\dns, does the zone still exist in there? It will be
called mianet.int.dns. Look in the winnt\system32\dns\backup folder as well.

Are there any errors in the Event viewer?

Ok since i am getting nowhere and the advice are quite open and unanswered.
Just for your information I have just created another secondary on another
server, which is not a dc and when i re-start that server all the settings
are still there.

But the problem still lies on DNS on domain controller - when i re-start the
dc i loose all the dns settings.

If anyone has a realistic answer please advice.

Many thanks

Sorry if it wasn't helpful or realistic, but it's a situation that no one
has seen before. If we've seen it before, we can turn around and say, "Yes,
I know exactly what it is", and give you a resolve. Why do you think no one
else has really answered yet? At least I didn't ignore the post and have
been trying to help with suggestions and will retract if you desire so.

I did really want to see a snapshot of what you're seeing because maybe it
will show me something you're not describing. But it doesn't seem like
you're reluctant to offer it or didn't read that part of the post.

There are also issues with the zone name itself that can probably cause
this. Maybe it doesn't like the 'int' TLD and it conflicts with something
else, who knows. It maybe a reserved word, depending on what localized
language is on the box. There's actually a link describing not to use
reserved words.

How do you have your zones loaded? That will show under your advanced tab in
DNS properties.

Maybe the DNS installation is corrupted. I've seen strange things when DNS
was added after the installation and after a service pack, but installed
with the RTM i386 folder without upating the service pack. Usually I have an
SP integrated i386 to install after the fact to eliminate this issue.

Maybe the NIC teaming software has something to do with it.

Sometimes, in cases like this, remoting into the machine for a look-see can
show something that we're missing in our dialogue.
